Seems we've been down this road before. Mallory condensers going bad for no
apparent reason or a bad production run at the factory. With everyone
chirping in its this and its that or Mallory is not the way to go. Well I
have found that it is almost always a BAD GROUND. When I switched to a
Mallory in my Spit I was concerned about reliability. Seems a friend with his
TR6 was going through a condenser every time he had the car out and was under
the belief if was bad condensers. But all the years I have had mine I have
yet to replace any parts, let alone condensers. Yes, I have several on the
shelf including points, rotors and caps, lot of money on spares.

At the same time I ordered my Mallory I checked with a few electronics friends
of mine and basically assured me that if everything is grounded well a
condenser should never fail. Maybe after many years of service and cycles of
temperature and moisture changes one could fail.

My advise is to check all the ground connections on the vehicle, especially
body/chassis to the engine and of course the battery.

Best of Luck,
Bob T

I run Mallory dual points on both the TR6 and Spitfire. I have never had a
condenser go bad on the TR6. On the Spitfire they don't seem to last. Both
use
Mallory #400 condensers. First, is there anything that would cause them to
take a dump more rapidly on one vehicle compared to another? Second, are the
Mallory condensers different than a generic condenser? I can get generics
anytime, sources for the Mallory's are not around the corner when one takes a
dump and I don't have a spare handy.Any opinions out there?

Thanks,
Marty
