I still remember one of those lunchtime rides at Summit in a Porsche
911 variant - $20 for charity. At least the Porsche had a seat and a
windshield. For the first time I realized that in racing you were
either hard on the gas or hard on the brakes, but not much in
between. I signed up for 3 day formula dodge driver's school with
Skip Barber shortly after that (worked for a company in some good
years in the '90s where driver's "school" was considered an
educational event and they paid for most of it).
What a hoot! I've been hooked ever since.

No, but I rode as a passenger.

I caught a ride in my buddy's Sprite during crew rides at a vintage
race at
Summit Point years ago. I sat on the fire extinguisher and foolishly
tried to
video the ride for posterity. There was no windshield on my side and
the wind
going down the straight was so strong that I couldn't hold the camera
steady.
I shot sky, trees, and floorboards, but little track. I gave up and
put the
camera down. That allowed me to hold on for dear life with two hands
anyway.

Then he overcooked Wagon Bend and we went off to the outside. Luckily,
we got
back on the track without help.

I broke the fire extinguisher mount. I also cracked the viewfinder on
the
camera.

Man, was it fun!
