If you need to remove the valve cover on a hot engine, just make sure
you have a bucket of ice water standing by.... If you soak the gasket
in ice water, it will shrink and be far easier to re-install. My own
tests showed that this shrunk the gasket further than sticking it in a
freezer. Go figure!

You could glue the gasket to the valve cover with RTV silicone gasket
maker. I didn't recommend it (for the 4 banger TRs) over the years, as
I felt, in theory, the gasket might not last as long. However, it's
mandatory for the TR6 type gaskets and it has worked out well. You
could give it a try. I would be interested to hear how it worked for you.

The gaskets don't work with alloy covers. (Though I learned when I was
in England, that one of the works TR4's has one installed under an alloy
cover. Nevertheless, I don't recommend it.)

FOT.... remember... you all get $10 off gaskets for your Race Cars.
I've been offering that since the gaskets and FOT were born.
