I've had trouble getting my copper head gaskets to seal on my Spitfire
motors unless the head and block surfaces are very, very smooth (and
clean). Once the surfaces were smooth, I had reasonable luck getting
them to seal using spray-on Copper Coat, spraying it on both sides,
hanging it to dry until it was tacky.

Ultimately, I have gone back to the composite gaskets - the Payen gasket
with the rubbery surfaces. They work every time.

I have been having head gasket issues for awhile now and finally went
with a
solid copper gasket from Gasket works that actually was designed to
lower
compression a bit. It leaked oil at ECR, so the head is off again and
I'm
looking for a gasket dressing/seal that will get this done for the rest
of the
year. Can't get a response from Gasket works, and Moss recommends
Hylomar.
Suggestions?
