Jim McAndrew of Tyler TX has a TR3 that matches that description. I know it
was raced by those guys.

Dana Keible and Ara Dube ran the 2000 Km Daytona Continental in 54  
finished 15th overall and first in GT II. Car was Prepared by Bill  
Conners of Daytona Beach ,  The fourteen car ahead of them were 7  
Ferarris 3 AC Cobras and 4 Porches . 8 laps behind was a  lotus  
Elite , followed by Aston Matin Sunbeam Alpine, Porsche C, Volvo  
1800s, and a bunch of Corvettes, a TR4 , an MG and a Sebring Sprite.   
See Feb. 64 TSOA Newsletter, Maybe  at Temple of Triumph site,   
Kastner was receiving  an Award in Dallas from the SCCA for Technical  
writing in the same Newsletter,
