Building the oil cooler into the radiator is a great way to go except =
you have to change both if you have an engine failure that contaminates =
the oil. Absent this small issue, using hot water to warm cold oil is =
useful. My old Maserati Mistral has a ridiculously complicated water/oil =
heat exchanger to do just that. It has three thermostats=E2=80=94one =
that connects the heat exchanger to the engine outlet to warm the oil =
from the water (which gets hot first) and then to switch to the radiator =
outlet to cool the oil. If you=E2=80=99re going to have a radiator made, =
make it a two pass for the water section. No significant change in size =
(just a little thicker) and about 40-50% more temperature drop at the =
same flow rate.=20

My alum radiator (50x50cm x 8cm) developed a very small leak but it =
would only happen when the thing got up to temp. It was very hard to =
find. You might also try changing caps. If it is not in the cooling =
system I would look at the ducting and airflow out from engine =
compartment. It could be a simple situation of to much air getting in =
and not enough getting out at high speed to maintain flow.

experiment with different restrictor plates with no change. Changing =
pump speed didn't help either. The difference between radiator in and =
outlet is 10=C2=B0C (50F). Not enough I would say. Maybe making the pump =
more slower? It was running on a ratio of 0.8 slower than crank, =
currently 1:1 speed. Any ideas? 10 Liters are circulating.
