There could be a chance that the block has survived.

Today I removed some of the shrapnels from the oil pan and had a look =
inside the engine.

The pistons are still there, also conrod shaft seems to be okay.

I would say a rod bolt snapped.

I didn=E2=80=99t see much damage, maybe a new crank is needed, maybe =
also the camshaft is damaged.

I=E2=80=99ll go deeper in short future, when the engine is out of the =
car.

there is still lots of rover V8 stuff here in australia and a couple of =
engine specialists that send modified stuff all over the world. we had =
our own mass-produced long stroke/big bore version with a locally made =
block & crank, long before Leyland thought about it for the RangeRover
