Hello Friends,
I've removed and disassembled my TR3 engine after 7 years, 19 race events and
about 5500 miles since it's completion.
The crank and cam look excellent as do the bearings, both mains and rods.
One thing I found was that some of the valve spring shims were disintegrating.
There are two different types of shims, one golden/yellow and one plain silver.
The problem is that the silver ones are heavily worn from the springs tearing
them up. The golden yellow shims look as installed, with no visual wear and
they don't seem to have been rotating. It obvious the springs over the silver
shims were rotating and causing the heavy wear. Perhaps these shims are too
soft.
Can someone enlighten me on this?
In the garage on lockdown,
Dave H.
