I am not sure which is concours. On the cars I have seen the gap is as
little as 0 or as much as 1 inch.
There has been some discussion on this before. Theory is that if there is a
gap then hot air is drawn which has already flowed through the rad. Thus,
the cooling is not as effective. Makes sense to me. Again whether it is
correct or not I do not know.
What I did was to make 2 shroud pieces out of Al. They are of larger
surface area and tuck up tightly at the sides of the rad but still attach at
the same points. Does it make a difference?

panels. My idea was, that the panels should have a gap to the radiator of
about 1/2inch to be able to remove the radiator without removing the
deflector panels.
