I have a question for the list:

What is the difference between the wooden top bow (hoodstick
retaining rail) on a BN6-7 2 seater and a BN4 or BT7 4-seater ? The
parts list lists different numbers, but what is the physical
difference to the piece of wood-thickness, curve, length- they both
meet up to the same windsceen frame. Non?

Alain,
I'm not sure but I believe the actual piece of wood may be the same for
either BN7 or BT7. They are certainly listed with different part numbers in
the original BMC Spare Parts List, but I believe this is due to the fact
that they are predrilled for two different set ups.
The BN7 wood bow is trimmed in the appropriate top vinyl, then it is
permanently screwed to the steel top bow (frame) with wood screws, and the
top itself is installed over this, capped with the alloy moulding with the
lip that fits to the top of the windscreen frame. This setup leaves the
front bow permanently fastened to the steel bows.
The BT7 setup has the wood bow trimmed the same as the top material, and the
alloy moulding is screwed to the wood with wood screws, then the top
material installed, trimmed, etc. This setup leaves the front bow attached
to the top only, but loose from the folding steel top frame.
The biggest difference here in the BT7 wood bow is the fact that at each end
there are two holes counterbored into the wood horizontally from front to
back and "T" nuts are imbedded into the wood to receive the 10-32 screws
anchoring the hold down latch assemblies. These screw into the imbedded T
nuts from the back side, i.e the screw heads are seen from within the car.
Bottom line is the BN7 doesn't have these counterbores with T nuts imbedded.
The BN7 hold down hardware is entirely different and mounts to the sides of
the steel cantrail.
Hard to describe, but I hope this answers your question.
