I monkeyed around with mine a bit before getting things right.  I would
check the cable also, you can drive with it out, it shoul turn smooth, not
rythmic or jerky when you go.  I can work its way out of the square drive
hole on the other end, so don't go too far.


If everything checks with the cable you can also check the speedo with a
cordless drill and appropriate bit, be sure to turn it the same way the
cable turns (same way the needle swings on the guage).

BUT I would then turn the speedo manually (gently) FIRST to make sure it is
free, if stuck you can break internal parts which are hard to find (don't
ask me how I know)

The speedo should read steady from the cordless drill if good.

If the speedo is bad I would send it to a shop, but maybe others have
suggestions on how to fix.
