Grounding Gas Tank

We talked around this problem earlier, but I don't recall a specific
solution.

So, you have cleaned up and painted your gas tank. (in this case, primer,
primer, black, black, clear), and then set it on the square foam gasket on the
frame. It's held down by painted insulated straps, ----and of course the fuel
gauge doesn't work because it has no electrical connection to the frame.
I had noticed that the P.O. had run a green wire from one of the sender
mounting screws to somewhere on the frame. Of course I could accomplish the
same with any number of jury-rigs, but what is the correct means of grounding
the fuel tank to get the gauge to work?
