Interesting variety on what people are doing to avoid leaks around the valve
cover. Thought I would put it all in once place.
On the cover:
Permatex Hylomar seems to be the favorite
Fuel and oil resistant silicon
Gasket cement or Indian Indian Head shellac

On the bottom of the gasket:
Nothing at all, wheel bearing grease, or Hylomar (but may destroy gasket on
removal)

Tips:
Use clothespins every inch to hold gasket to head while curing
check to see if flange is bent.
replace with alloy valve cover

Thanks guys. only 3 more leaks to go.
