For a BJ8 engine, the numbers and letters of the engine serial number are
embossed from the rear of the plate. I believe this is true for BJ7s as well
(mine is). For the other models, I can't say.

I mention this because, although Clarke Spares perfectly reproduced a VIN
plate for me that was identical to the original in every way, and I was
completely satisfied with the service, I understand that someone else with a
BJ8 had an engine serial number plate reproduced by Clarke and it was embossed
from the front side. As I was told, Mr. Clarke insisted that it was correct,
but of all the BJ8 engine serial plates I have seen (and I have seen a bunch),
all were from the back side. It might be prudent to specify how you want the
tag embossed if you order one from Clarke.

I have been under the impression that this is correct, but was told I was
wrong recently. So I began looking and the majority of ID plates I have
seen
have the numbers embossed from the front. What is correct?

Does it make a difference from model to model? What is correct for a BN2?
