Hello Listers

Took my BJ7 for a 20 mile cruise on Saturday, very nice too. The weather is
getting cool in England and winter is not far away, so it was good to have a
last blast before conditions dictate that the car stays indoors until the
spring. We get so much anti-icing salt spread on our roads that it's not worth
the risk to go out from about now.

We've had some good fun touring around this summer, I put a 'Double S'
stainless exhaust system on in June (from SC Parts - good price/excellent
service) and I was gald that the traditional Healey note didn't change too
much from the previous mild steel rasp.

Anyway, I got back from my Saturday trip and was about to turn off the battery
switch when I heard a hissing sound coming from the battery (heavy duty sealed
unit with recon dynamo all 2002). Felt around the case and it was a bit warm -
and more worringly the sides were bloated. Obviously gas pressure was high, so
much so, I was gad to close the boot (trunk) lid pretty quick.

Pressures gone now and my volt meter reads 13.6v across the battery
terminals.

We've done around 1,500 miles this year without a hitch and never had a
problem with the battery before.

Where's the smart money on this? Control box? Faulty Battery? or something
else?

Any help gratefully received.

All the best
