The times I have been involved with dry ice blasting - in purely
industrial situations - the effect is truly remarkable. All sorts of grease,
scale and dirt are cleaned very nicely. There is no sand or blast-media
residue, but you do have the removed material to clean up. I'm not sure what
the effect on painted surfaces might be, but I would guess at least some of
the paint would be removed with the grime.
However - and admitting that pricing tends to come down as a
product/service is refined and becomes more accepted (read competition), and
remember I was in an industrial setting (read much higher prices) - the
going rate was about $1500.00 to $2000.00 per hour.
Based on the time consumed to blast cans and cylinders in a vacuum ladle
refiner (steel making process), I'd estimate a Healey engine compartment
would be about a two to three hour project, once the drive-line and all
other components were removed.
