This car is going to drive me crazy.

I have rebuilt my transmission(BJ-8) and can't get it in reverse with the
gearshift remote shaft. I have gone through the following process:

New parts installed where needed.
Went through the problem of not been able to get it in the 3rd/4th gears.
Found that I did not have gear slider hub on the mainshaft correctly.
The two plungers(with no spring) were not lined up with the two slight
recesses in the mainshaft, Corrected this. Re assembled and could not get
in 4th gear. Found that one of the plungers(with no springs) was tight
in the hole. Switched these and they worked fine. Prior to installing
the cover, all gears work very well by hand. When I installed the cover
with interlock balls and springs, all forward gears worked fine using the
gearshift shaft. It would not go into reverse. When I line up the
striking forks as being in the neural position and try to move it into
reverse, I can feel the lever selector push up against the plunger in the
reverse fork. It will only move it about 1/16 of an inch. This does
not allow the lever selector to move into the recess of the reverse fork
enough to allow it to move. When the shaft is pushed toward reverse, it
runs into the 1st/2nd fork and there is not enough room for it to side
past.
Questions.
1. Is the lever selector suppose to move into the slot of the reverse
fork as it does into the 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th forks to allow movement into
a gear?
2. How do you remove the plungers in the reverse fork? Looking at the
fork, the smaller plunger is pushed up by a spring into a recess of
about 1/4" on the larger plunger. It looks like this is the way it was
designed, but with a 1/16 " movement, what is this suppose to accomplish?
3. Should I put this car up for sale on E-bay.

Someone please help.
