Hi, Ted -

1. Disconnect the steering column wiring harness in front of the steering box.
Tape the wires together tightly at the ends, with a string inside. You will
pull this string into the steering column as you remove the harness, so that
you will have something to guide the harness back down the column on
reinstallation.
2. Remove the three setscrews (English: grubscrews) that are equally spaced
around the steering wheel hub, just in front of the banjo wires.
3. Pull the entire horn/turn signal unit out of the steering column, with the
harness wires trailing behind and pulling the string into the column. When
the harness clears the steering column inside the car, untape the harness and
string. Remove the harness, leaving the string in the column.
4. As you sit in the driver's seat, turn the big ridged locking nut between
the steering wheel and column clockwise to loosen it. It may be difficult to
turn by hand. I use a strap wrench and pad the nut with a cloth. Loosen it
fully.
5. Push the steering wheel in (i.e., toward the column). The wheel is
splined to the column and should slide, but may be difficult if the grease is
dried out.
6. This will expose a snapring at the end of the column. Remove this
snapring and the steering wheel will come off.

Someone else will have to recommend a smaller replacement.

Can someone walk me through the steps in removing the steering wheel? Also,
any suggestions regarding a smaller diametered replacement?

  Thanks,
  Ted
