A few years back, I lived in New Jersey for 20+ years. My BJ7 had to pass
state inspection, including emissions (1963 emission standards). I would drive
to the inspection station and wait in the long lines, no matter what day or
time. The car always failed the emissions, fouled plugs.

I would then take the car out on the expressway and run it at high speed (65 -
70 MPH, 3500++ RPM) with and without the overdrive, for perhaps 30 minutes. I
exited the expressway near the inspection center, coasted as much as possible
and returned to the finished end of the inspection lane. You can return to the
finish end of the line for small things like emissions, horns, lights etc,
without going through the whole process again. The car would always pass
emissions after the highspeed run. I used to call it a "British Tuneup". The
Italians call it an "Italian Tuneup".

The car is really quite happy when run at high speed. The run burns off any
built up carbon in the entire intake and combustion system. Besides the fun of
the high speed run, the car runs much better at all speeds.

Have fun with your car at any speed you are comfortable with but by all means
be safe. You must know and trust your abilities and skills, the road
conditions and certainly the condition of your car.

Just my 2 cents.
