I am not so sure that they always had the new type of seats. 
 
The second series BN4 did have them, but production of these began in
Sept 1958 well after the production of BN6s began so is not really a
factor, they would have used the same seats as later BN6s
 
There are contemporary photos which show BN6 cars with the early type
seat patterns
