As far as I know, the change to steel synchros was at the first BJ8.  There 
wer many other changes to the gearbox done at the same time - different 
gearset, modified case, different layshaft, different top, etc.  The later 
BN / BT7 as well as the BJ7 all had the same gearbox (from the start of 
centre-shift production).

Sorry, can't help you with the change point gearbox number - I suspect 
that's going to be a toughie.

Trust all are having an interesting weekend.
Anybody know when the centershift gearboxes first had steel synchro rings
fit instead of brass? If so do you have the switch over gearbox number?
