Ran out of gas.

Dear list,
I ran out of gas over the weekend.  I filled her up and she started fine but 
after a short time she just coughed and the revs were unresponsive with 
pedal pressure.  I imagine that all of the crap that was floating in my 51 
year old gas tank is caught up in the engine or something.  I kept trying 
thinking that it would flush it out but no luck.  Any advice would be 
apriciated.
