Bob,
Another reason would be that Redline is a true gear oil.  It is made to 
resist the shearing action of the gears meshing together whereas motor 
oil is not.  It also has foaming inhibitors so the oil doesn't become a 
frothy mess with the action of the gears.
A transmission is a totally different animal than an engine and it makes 
a lot of sense to me to take advantage of the technological advances 
that have been made since our cars were new.
