Jim,
I have never tried to clean or polish the door trim plates. The trim plates  
(door finishers) you are referring to were made of an anodized  aluminum. I'm 
not so sure that you can get the correct look back by polishing. I  have used 
an aluminum type of spray paint to get a fresh look on aluminum  transmission 
cases or intake manifolds. You may want to look into that as an  option if the 
cleaning / polishing doesn't do the  trick.....Tony
