Peter,

There's a right handed and a left handed nut.  The right hand nut is on 
the right hand side of the car (aft looking forward).  "MOWOG RH" or 
"MOWOG LH" is stamped on one face of the nuts.  If the PO was thinking, 
he would have installed the nuts so the lettering was visible.

If you were a bit closer, I'd lend you the Churchill tool.  Prior to 
having the factory tool, I used a 3/4" drive, 2 3/16", 12 point socket. 
  The lead-in taper in the socket was machined off so socket was 
contacting as much of the nut as possible.
