Hi Gary -

Ok, the article on the dowel bolts is in installment 23 of Roger Moment's
restoration series, in the September 2008 issue of Austin Healey Magazine.
The 100 Dowel bolt is a 3/8" BSF bolt with a special 0.374" diameter shank
that fits into the 0.375" holes in the 7 o'clock and 1 o'clock positions.
These positions have a slight recess on the casting, and the bolts are just
a bit shorter than the standard bolt. The bolt head is unique and has only
two flats cut in a round head, rather than your standard hex head. The UNF
dowel bolt used on later cars is adaptable to the need, however, (the shank
is the same diameter, but a bit longer in length) so they can be used if
necessary, probably by putting one or two washers under the head.

Hope that helps

Alan
