Alan,
Thanks for the follow-up & details. I just finished re-reading #23 & that is
also very helpful. Apparently, our local club member no longer has these two
dowel bolts. Do you or anyone on the list know if the later 6 cylinder bolts
are available from some supplier?
Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary -

Ok, the article on the dowel bolts is in installment 23 of Roger Moment's
restoration series, in the September 2008 issue of Austin Healey Magazine.
The 100 Dowel bolt is a 3/8" BSF bolt with a special 0.374" diameter shank
that fits into the 0.375" holes in the 7 o'clock and 1 o'clock positions.
These positions have a slight recess on the casting, and the bolts are just a
bit shorter than the standard bolt. The bolt head is unique and has only two
flats cut in a round head, rather than your standard hex head. The UNF dowel
bolt used on later cars is adaptable to the need, however, (the shank is the
same diameter, but a bit longer in length) so they can be used if necessary,
probably by putting one or two washers under the head.

Hope that helps

Alan

At our local club meeting last night, a member was inquiring about a source
for the two transmission bellhousing dowel bolts for a BN1. I would like to
know the size of these bolts (specifications), OE part # & a source, if
available.
Thanks,
Gary Hodson
