I recently stripped the nut on my replacement passenger-side door check
assembly, which seems to be made of soft material. The bolt itself was OK.

 

Turns out to be a 5/16 - 18 reverse-thread nut which is sold by Dorman at
hardware stores. Also available online at http://www.boltdepot.com/
