Well, thanks for the (overwhelming) response. Wrote the query, took the car
to pub on test drive prior to doing the carbs post PCV installation, come
back and problem solved. Or, no problem in first place. Thank you one and
all..

Sorry Skip, you are wrong here.
The pump is working perfectly normal. They all leak some very small
amount of fuel past the valves, the tiniest amount is sufficient to drop
the pressure enough to trigger the pump.
It ain't broke so don't fix it.
