Hi Rich,
Bob's tip about using the quotes is right on. Without quotes healey returns
14,000 items in the "parts and accessories" category, with quotes it's trimmed
down to about 3,000. The generic items will be mostly gone. These don't even
list Healey in their description, but they mark their items as compatible with
all cars.
The quotes make sure that the search engine uses your entry literally. Ebay
has been trying to give us more results by expanding search results but as you
experienced more is not better.
You can then add search terms or exclude with the minus sign just like Bob
said.
"healey" -jensen -nash -bugeye -sprite -midget gives you almost exclusive Big
Healey items, about 1900 items.
"healey" 100 catches 733 healey items for the 100 exclusively but better is

"healey" (100, bn1, bn2, "bn 1", "bn 2")this catches 769 healey items for the
100 or BN1 or BN2. The parentheses and comma seperated terms creates a list
of alternatives. You can copy/paste these examples in the ebay search box
and replace 100 by 3000 or bn2 by bn4 etc,... as needed.
the only problem is that 100 is still a generic term used a lot in
descriptions like "100% cotton" so a combination of search and exclusion terms
is the most powerful:
"healey" -jensen -nash -bugeye -sprite -midget -cover (100, bn1, bn2, "bn 1",
"bn 2") down to 600 items.
it also can pay off to use "healy" as this is a common misspelling.
("healey", "healy") -jensen -nash -bugeye -sprite -midget -cover (100, bn1,
bn2, "bn 1", "bn 2") caught 2 more items.
You can save the searches on ebay but it's probably easier to make a bookmark
in your browser as soon as you land of the first page of results.
Here are 2 of my custom searches for NOS lucas parts for the Healey 100 BN2
http://www.tinyurl.com/lucas-parts-uk http://www.tinyurl.com/lucas-parts-us
There's about 280 search terms, mostly part numbers, in this search which is
the method I use to hunt down correct Lucas parts where the seller doesn't
want to spend the time figuring out the application of a part. Usually not a
lot of bidders on these parts. ;-)
cheers,
Bert
