I've had just the opposite experience with Champions. The heat ranges
were so narrow, that if the exact same type of driving wasn't always
done with the car, they would become a problem. That was many years ago
('70s) and I've shied away from them since.
My XKE also likes to foul plugs nowadays if it just gets started and not
driven for any distance. Good to know they are prone to that.
