I have a '51 Austin A90 and I can confirm the metal flake they used then
was extraordinarily fine and prone to oxidation. In the handful of parts
of my car hidden from light, the flake and colors are absolutely stunning,
but without a decent clearcoat it comes out quite flat. That said I am a
fan of these British fine flake metallics, with a decent clearcoat they
look one step short of iridescent or possibly "creamy". Wish modern flakes
looked like this, they are quite elegant.
