Hello

I have trafficators (or semaphores) on our =E2=80=9948 Healey Duncan and in=
dicators on the 100 BN3.

Steve,

I have also always called "it" a "mayonet". The thing I have always called=
the "traficator" was always the swing out directional arm which can still =
be found on London cabs.

I've just had my Trafficators apart again because the left hand signal didn=
=E2=80=99t seem to be maintaining contact. It=E2=80=99s working well now, b=
ut it is a fiendish little device, and getting the lever back in with all t=
he appropriate springs in place is not easy=E2=80=A6sort of like watch repa=
ir.

Anyway, I was looking at the original Lucas literature and it got me to won=
dering why we call it a =E2=80=9CTrafficator=E2=80=9D. Seems that the traff=
icators were the little flip-up semaphore signals made by Lucas, and usuall=
y paired with what they called the =E2=80=9Cself cancelling switch assembly=
=E2=80=9D=E2=80=A6which is what we Healey people now call a trafficator.

I guess, since they were originally paired, =E2=80=9Ctrafficator=E2=80=9D s=
lips off the tongue more easily than "self cancelling switch assembly=E2=80=
=9D !

Hoping I don=E2=80=99t have to take that thing apart again for a long time=
=E2=80=A6

Stephen, BJ8
