Tom:  Is it hanging up on the firewall?  The gear box needs to be =
rotated clockwise enough so the "bump" on the bell housing where the =
starter pinion goes clears the firewall.  And the whole =
engine/transmission alignment must be perfect.  If you have done that, =
then my next guess would be a damaged pilot bush.  .

  I am having one heck of a time getting the gear box back in my BJ8.  =
Three people--me under the car-----had to remove the two mounting pieces =
from the rear--finally got it situated in the rear slot.  Seems the =
drive shaft--that I have lifted up as high as possible is still in the =
way.  we gave up on it after 2 hours of trying.  I've replaced 2 of =
these in the past but never had this problem.  Anyone have any =
comments/advice they want to share?
