Gary & Larry,
  I had talked to a few other racers about this and was told that it is
impossible to carry enough air (at least for LSR type vehicles).  Take your
favorite engine and figure volume at max RPM then multiply by time under
power.  This turns out to be an incredible amount of air.  Another problem
is the pressure in the tank is dropping as your need for air increases (to
increase speed), at some point it will cause air supply problems.

Another perspective is gained when thinking about people that run NOS.  They
are pulling in all the air (atmosphere) them can and still use a significant
amount of NOS.  If they didn't have the air, imagine how much NOS they would
use.  Using pure oxygen or NOS going into an engine is a great recipe for
meltdown.  Flame front temperatures would be out of this world.  Also safety
would be a big concern with large volumes of pure oxygen or NOS.
