The spec is for 5w-30 [min.] with most of the people I have talked to 
suggesting the conversion to 0W-30.  The spec for temp is oil & coolant at 200 
degrees.  Since most of these engines used a oil to water heat exchanger, I 
susspect that is why the matching temp.  Needless to say, they want these HOT 
before trun over...

That brings back memories John.

The owners manual for the 1966 Ford Indy motor called for Rotunda 20W-40 
oil
and oil @ 180, coolant @ 160 prior to starting. Specifying a multi grade 
oil for racing
back then was almost sacrilegious.

Does it need 0W-30 oil like modern NASCAR motors?
