Stuck Float.

On Sunday afternoon I put the dirty plugs back in, turned on the key and as
usual the fuel pump cycled with the clicking becoming less frequent before
it stops.  I "tickled" the rear carb, and nothing happened, then I "tickled"
the front  (With Amals and older D'lorotos pressing the button to sink the
float and flood the fuel bowl is 'tickling' in MC jargon) and the front made
the fuel pump respond.  So I tapped the rear bowl with the handle of a screw
driver and then the fuel pump responded.

I then noticed the control linkage on the carbs was pretty gummed up so I
gave it a few squirts of carb cleaner and the choke levers worked much
smoother.  It started right up.  I recruited my three year old to go for a
ride "in the noisy car".  We drove laps around the neighborhood, making sure
to drive past as many of his friends houses as possible.  

A can of Gumout carb cleaner in the tank and then I drove it to the remote
garage.  One of these warm afternoons I'll have to sneak over there and see
how varnished up those carbs have gotten.  I now understand the condition of
the sticky control cables and other strangeness and charm of the SU's.
Thanks for the advice on how to open the SU's.

Once home I informed the spousal unit her Honda could park with the Royal
Enfields, Laverdas, and Yamahas again.  Two hours later there was a fresh
apple pie on the kitchen counter.

Too bad you guys aren't close enough to enjoy a slice of pie.  Thanks for
making this easy.
