1) I've seen many. This is a sport exhaust upgrade,
not a replacement part.
2) The bracket on the stock muffler goes under the tailpipe, while
it sits on a post about 2 inches ABOVE the tailpipe on the ANSA.
Is the rubber-bumper model really that
different from the pre-75 ANSA?

Some PO put a twin-tip ANSA on my '71 GT. ' Looks great from a distance
until you look carefully. The cut-out in the rear valance is bunged up and
it does not look like it is supposed to fit. The twin-tip would have to
hang below the cut-out entirely in order to look "good" - which it would
until you bottomed out on your first driveway apron. That would put it
down pretty low, I would think. I'm not knocking the ANSA exhaust - mind
you. I just can't visualize how the one I have would clear the ground much
if it were hanging below the cut-out. Mine may not even be designed for
the MGB! And I certainly cannot vouch for the installation.
Now, I replaced an aftermarket header and total exhaust system on my '76
not long ago. It uses HS4s so I got a stock manifold (hey - did you know
there are two different types - one for HS4s and another for HIFs?), and a
stock chrome-bumpered exhaust system - which made sense to me since it was
an HS4 conversion. It didn't even come close to fitting! The exhaust tip
was still about 10" below the bracket even when forced to the limit without
bending or collapsing something. Then it dawned on me that the axle on the
Rbr Bpr car is 1.5 inches further away from the bottom of the car. So I
bought new center and rear pieces for a Rbr Bpr car, and it fit perfectly.
The car is now about 0.5% quieter and maybe it runs 5% faster than it did
with the performance exhaust!
The Chr Bpr pieces will get installed on my '73 GT (which also has new rear
leaf-springs and wasn't I delighted when the Purveryer of Fine British
Parts sent me 7 bushings - informing me that the remaining one was on
back-order!)
Conclusion: yes, the muffler systems really are that different. Granted,
I'm dealing with a stock exhaust system - but either type has to fit.
