the prohibition on importing radios seems to me to have been done to protect
the rather lucrative practice of dealers stateside selling and installing
whatever radio they had a good bargain on that week, and marking it up
accordingly. My 67 B has a real honest-to-lucas BMC radio, but I don't know
if BMC installed it or sold it to a US dealer to install as "dealer prep".
I've seen antenna holes mounted all over the place on Bs and other brit cars,
I wouldn't make any assumptions regarding heritage based on where some
drill-happy installer decided to strike oil.. :)
The British Heritage Trust can give you build spec. details on your car,
don't have their contact info handy but perhaps someone else on the list
does. Original build specs that didn't include lots of smog gear on your 73
would be the most positive clue to whether it was originally destined for the
US or elsewhere, as the rest of the world was not nearly as "smogged"
equipment wise as we were at the time
Good Luck
