Sounds like a blown head gasket between 2 and 3.  Time to pull the head,
check the surfaces, then put it back together again.  Might also ask why it
would have blown; the car may have a history of overheating.  The '70
Midget ought to have a 1275 motor.  The later 1500s are prone to
overheating, poor running, etc...  Good luck!  sf
