In an effort to undo an exhaust travesty foisted on me by DPO I put a new
catalytic converter in my 79B. The car now runs rough when on fast idle which
it didnt do before - and seems a bit louder when on fast idle as well. When it
warms up it runs more smoothly and quieter. The thing that bothers me is that
the converter turns red hot and even turns the pipe it is connected to red as
well. When I took it for a drive, parked it, and looked at the converter it
wasn't red anymore. The car runs fine when its warm. The plugs show some black
deposit. I suppose it is running rich and heating up the converter. Is this a
problem? Any suggestions? Is the car going to burn up?
