No there is no depression isnside a Midget trunk for the the spare tyre. However
there is a "captive" nut in the center of the trunk, to which the spare tyre is
attached.

I installed the spare tyre on my Midget's trunk lid a Looooong time ago. Works
great.
It allows full use of the trunk, and with no spare tyre, easily accommodates
camping
equiprement, food, clothes etc for 2 people for 1 week.

The way I installed the wheel to the boot, was by drilling 2 holes in the top
of the
trunk which co-incided with 2 of the mounting holes in the spare wheel. I used
threaded rod to get the wheel slightly raised at the back so that I can get the
key in the trunk lock. I used a thick piece of steel on the inside of the
trunk
to act as a strenghting piece,

You have to juggle the tyre around on the trunk lid and make sure it does not
interfere with the operation of the hood . I use a hard top on the Midget in
winter, and I can still use the trunk with the tyre mounted to it.

Be aware that the trunklid becomes AWFULLY heavy !!!!

btw : I think this installation gives the Midget a "period" look.
