I got good race performance from my set of Splitfires, but used one hotter
heat range than specc'd for MGB, and also, they were used in conjunction with
a Crane HI-6 Capacitative Discharge ignition system, Crane PS-91 80,000 volt
coil, etc. In addition, indexing the plugs always helps (a good thing to do
with any make of plug for maximum efficiciency).
