Chain the bumper secureley at the point of impact and back up suddenly.
With a little finesse, I've had luck with this method, though beware =
when
the chain pops!

Actually, if you can do this it is a simple matter to add a come-along =
to the mix and have much greater control of the amount and direction of =
force applied. Sort of like a primitive E-Z 'liner
