Hi everyone, I'm currently having an overdrive transmission done up for me
so I can replace my exsisting four speed. (Yippee!) I have a 3-synchro, 5
main bearing 1965 mark I MGB. I just found out that an overdrive tranny
is in fact 2 inches shorter than the tranny I have on my car and someone
said that I will have to replace my driveshaft with the longer version (32
inch I think)....is this correct? Also, I believe I will have to shift
the gearbox
crossmember (the detactable one) 2 inches forward...hopefully I have the
bolt holes already waiting for that transformation! Also...apparently the
gearstick (shift lever) is different and has to accomodate for the
different position (one guy said that his car kept jumping out of 2nd and
4th because the lever was getting forced out...he solved it by replacing
the gearstick with the correct one...must have had a bend in it to clear
the tunnel cover?) Does anyone know about this stuff? Is there anything
else I should know about changing to overdrive? The only other thing that
I don't know is...what is the best oil grade to use for the overdrive
tranny, and how much does it take? Thanks ....also, thanks to everyone
that helped me out with the rusted clutch problem. I have written a
letter to my parents explaining what to do...so I'll know the results in
about a week. Tony Rayner charayne@dingo.uq.oz.au
