Jeremy, 

The "stock" lead head valve seats are just the cast iron head ground to
mate with the valves. They are not a separte item from the head
casting. The lead added to the fuel lubricated the mating surface
between cast iron seat and the valve. With the elimination of leaded
fuel valve wear becomes excessive in this configuration. The no-lead
head has the cast iron in the valve seat area of the lead head machined
out and replaced with a hardend steel seat insert.  This hard material
isn't prone to the wear that the cast iron head material is.
