Whew, relief, I don't have to pull the engine on my Midget to get to the
"trans" leak. Do you know that the new Calif EC gas looks just like gear
lube when it has been puddling on top of asphalt overnight? So what I
thought was a tranny leak turned out to be a gas leak, dripping onto the
parking lot, soaking into and eating the paving, and creating a blend of
fluid which looked and felt just like 90wt gear lube.

Turned out I had a gas line crack, behind the engine where the metal line
running from the tank becomes a rubber line below the passenger/right-side
for about a foot/12"/300mm. I put the Midget up on jack stands, slid under
the car, moved the gas line a little, and what was a drip becase a stream.
Needless to say I grabbed a bucket for the leak, grabbed a siphon hose and
gas can to suck the gas out of the tank, and proceeded to suck and dump for
about an hour until the gas ran out. I now have a full tank of gas in the
lawnmower, the rototiller, and the motorcycle.

The moral of this story is to check those gas lines on a regular basis.
Where my line broke is right near where the exhaust pipe ducks down past
the firewall, and could have been very interesting if things had been
different.

Mike, whose Midget will probably get better gas mileage now.
, and who is going out to buy a fire extinguisher too.
