  Steve,

  I wouldn't think the leak would have anything to do with the idle.
  As for the idle speed, my TD does not like to idle below 1000 either.
  I think 1000 or even a little higher is perfectly acceptable. Anybody
  else have an opinion? (Should you measure your idle speed with the
  clutch in or out? It makes a difference. If you did get your engine
  to idle at say 600 RPM, it would probably die when you pushed
  in the clutch.)
