Thanks for writing back. Yes, it was fate that made us chat again! To
answer your chrome bumper question: most of the cars have crunched
these and I end up tossing them! But carry on!>>>>>
I have decided that I need another MG project! (PLEASE don't tell the
Missus!) Have you seen the Aston "stop gap" version of the MGB as noted
in the 11/96 issure of MG Enthusiast magazine? It was Aston Martin's
bid to save MG that just never worked out! Anyway, this "one of" is a
restyled rubber bumper roadster, except that it has the GT windscreen,
etc. The article starts on page 24. (If you don't happen to have this
mag, I would be glad to drop you a colour photo copy for your review!)

ANYWAY, I will be looking for a rubber bumper MGB GT for a donor car.
Perhaps I could locate you a chrome bumper GT version and we could just
trade! I just sold the '69 GT a few weeks ago to a fellow lister (Bryan
King, drop me a note!!) in the Bay area that would have been a great
restoration/conversion project. I may have mentioned earlier that I
visited a friend who lives in BC 12/95 that made the conversion to Rover
V8 in his '69 B roadster with no major problems. I am aware, however,
that the post '74 1/2 Bs are even simpler, i.e., drop in conversions.
I have a '76 B roadster that is pretty well stripped down and I've
checked out the bumper brackets on the front...pretty hefty is an
understatement here! I just wonder how easily this conversion will be?
Dropping the road height for the rubber bumper K member looks pretty
simple to me. It should just be a matter of taking the plasma
cutter/cutting torch to remove a small shoulder of sheet metal on top of
the member and that will drop the front a good inch or so and
re-install. What will you do for the rear? I know of some folks that
have replaced the stock springs with a fibreglass one piece spring that
has a lower arch...is this what you had in mind?
Let me know what you think...I've taken the liberty to post this to the
groupto see what others have to add!
