Steve:  The grease fitting was put there for a specific purpose, namely
to lubricate the foot lever shaft.  It will be important to replace the
nipple and to lubricate regularly as without grease on the shaft, the
bushing on one pedal, and the bushings on the chassis box will suffer
rapid wear.  Check to see if the 'solder' is in fact the remains of the
old fitting.  If so, remove it with an easy out and replace it. You
don't have to dismember the car to do the job.
